Autumn's Memory Poem by Keith Duperreault

Autumn's Memory

In serpent skies and fragile dreams, a call upon the wild
that seeks to slink and slumber in a color painted mild
of red and gold and royal touch that hides beneath its skin;
an elder secret buried deep to dry the life within
an icy wind that marches forth upon the sunless rise
that once beheld a listless breeze of summer softened lies
which sifted quiet, reaching deep out into nature's heart
and bore a fruit from simple seed of sour turned to tart
that spoke of lies a season spies upon those branches bare
which cannot hold the weight of autumn beauty lifted there
to weave a wisdom warning sign; a memory of times
that drift out on our memories, should sun begin to shine
and call to us those dreams of youth that never seem to last,
so we can savor one time more a life that time has passed.
