Why He Puts Me There

as i leave the island i have stayed for seven years
the familiar sound of waves and ingratiating rhythms
shake me into realisation that the Almighty
has placed me here to learn the mechanics
and power of rhythms and nuance of nature
so that i too can churn out lines that could
gravitate their way into the heart of humanity
