Why Did I? Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Why Did I?

Why did I?

We had shah
Shah means great
It means the best, a leader
I was a dog…an officer to fly
I wish I had not…but I did…
Wish is no more than a dream…
Truth is what exists, the fact, the happened…
I was an officer and I flew into the fire
I learned and earned knowledge…awareness
I wish I had remained the child I was born to be
Meaning a farmer or possibly a shepherd…

I started to hate him when I proved my ability to
Speak and read and be questioned:
And?
And?
And?

They asked me…
The Americans…
Among whom I studied and
I had no knowledge and
I had no ability to reply.
And I needed to, and I had to
Learn to become aware…
And I would not remain unaware…
And awareness brought me pain
And ‘Ignorance is bliss…'
I wish I was unaware…

And now I am in fire and in shit
And I suffer from past and present
And I know of how many borders and walls were raised…
And I know of when they started the race…
And it was when Shah, USA and Britain were friends …

What a shame! ! ! !
Those friends made today's mess.
