Whose Paradise It Is Poem by DEEPAK KUMAR PATTANAYAK

Whose Paradise It Is

God's or Demon's
Not once, not twice
And not thrice but many times
God visits this place
To see that it blooms into a paradise
Through forests, lakes, rivers, sea, brooks
And many beautiful landscapes,
With the wealth of birds and flowers and homes of loveliness
Composed of with precision
Land was content with its limitation
And water was upholding its pride within its liberation
None dared overrun the other and pillage the habitation
Until the other day standing with outstretched arms to welcome all
Unto its fold with pretty looks and smiles since time immemorial
But what went wrong that stunned the whole nation
Far and wide to the left and to the right on
You see and tread on a soul transparent and odorless
Dressed up in an outfit of mud red-yellow and greyish
On earth's holy bosom slumbering as if for immortality and honour
After mercilessly engulfing all beauty and beast and rich and poor
Day comes with sun
And night with stars and moon
Yet the sky looks overcast with clouds of gloom
Heavy and wan that might darken any moment with rainstorm
And the earth on being embarrassed to wear the looks of a broken-mirror
Keeps murmuring the melody of liquid notes of water
Sad and mournful while passing by every home,
Every temple, every shrine and every creation in nature's realm
Being submerged beneath that deadly wave
Deep and deeper in watery grave
Know not echoing where those soulful crying of human folk forever lost
In storm, in abysses, in your ice-cold breast
Oh no God no, that I am only touched
I am crippled, maimed and dead
No floods of earth so unfair I deem
As this and this that has demolished everyone's dream
*Kept up so long of a place so serenely beautiful like some great heaven of God
*Extended with glorious Arabian Sea coast, beaches and
*Reveals a languid network of glistening backwaters
*And the spice-and tea-covered hills of the Western Ghats
*Lush with summer's midday sun dazzling above palm-shaded green sky
*All-embracing indeed, it's a world away from the frenzy of elsewhere
Then why God why but, Master Will, how cometh it that thou dost intercept sunbeams
That which cometh from thee over tangled walks and waves man always abides
Is it, Nature is forswearing the paradise of antiquity in the face of calamity
Oh no It will wake up again and again with the milk of kindness and
humanity
And outpour the affliction, anguish and spilling
Of deluge that God always seem inflict upon human beings with a great deal of harm and suffering

A poignant yet beautiful poem. Very apt title. A total depiction of the wonderful attributes of a great city likened to a paradise ravaged by the cruelties of Mother Nature. Yes, Kerala will wake up again and again with the milk of kindness and humanity. A marvelous line from a great poem.10+++++
