Voices Of A Victim Poem by Marie Helene Diop

Voices Of A Victim

A small boy sits sorrowfully
As he watches his mother die
Life is drained from her loving face
As she loses the battle between life and death

He silently prays
And wishes to give her three gifts

The first, a teddy bear
So she can fear no more,
For she is strong
An angel waiting to drift off into Heaven
And finally be free
Free of hurt, torment, and pain

The second, a picture
So she can forever keep him in her heart
To love him with burning affection
Always be his guardian angel
To remember the sacred reminiscences they shared

The third, a telescope
So she can always look down on him
Guide him through the road of darkness
And show him the light
Steer him from wrong decisions
And to be proud

She strains to take her last breath
A tear flowing down her exhausted face
She chokes out her last words,
“I will always be proud
Keep me in your heart forever
I love you…”
