Tomorrow Poem by Marie Helene Diop

Tomorrow

Glistening delicate snow
Falls upon a street
Festive music playing throughout
None are melancholy, but all upbeat

Lonesome orphan
Walks with just gloom
Envious of merry homes
Where love and happiness is in bloom

He yearns and yearns
To be taken in loving arms
Tears trickle down his face
As he kisses his once lucky charm

'Tomorrow', he says
As he carries on through the night
Not knowing that tomorrow
Santa would bring a terrific delight

Snowflakes dancing
In the chilly air
Joyous children playing
Without a care

Santa's carefully checking
Who's naughty or nice
Visting every jolly home
And checking his list twice

He stops at the home
Of a poor little lad
Disapprovingly nodding his head
While looking at the very little the boy had

He slowly makes his way over
To the boy's Christmas list
Expecting there to be
Ridiculous, expensive gifts

Shocked at what he sees,
He grants the boys three wishes:
Food at the table
Accompanying sturdy dishes
Two loving parents
Who gave tons of hugs and kisses

A merry Christmas to all
And to all a good night
And for Christmas to be
A stupendous delight
