Trust Poem by Jemmima Hayes

Trust

Defeat is calling, my walls are breaking,
That’s how it goes,
Lay down, broken heart, broke,
That is how it always goes,
Seldom do I find myself untouched,

People trust what they see, what they want to see,
What they believe to see,
It’s silly really,
Do they not know how easy it is to hide behind a smile? A Laugh?
Silly people,

You want me to let these walls I have built fall,
Sometimes I do,
Though not for long,
I see how people can be nasty, even you,
How can I put my heart on the line?
When I know it will only be broken,

I want to tell you things, so many things,
I don’t want this, how can you accuse me so,
Your words they hurt, you’re no different,
I’m paranoid,
It cannot be helped; it is what this world has taught me,

The trust of the innocent is the liar’s most useful tool.
