Today Was My Birthday Poem by Francisca Darko

Today Was My Birthday

Rating: 5.0

The table was set with the sweets and the trinkets
The one they came to meet was laid in a blanket
Of all their kisses and the hugs
And all their pinches and the tugs
To welcome her into such an embrace
With a smile, she will accept with grace
She has grown too quick
They all cry and they spew
Their fingers as they click
And their mouths with which they coo
Then the presents- a ceremony of silence
For they watch her closely to see her surprise
To see her smile and thank so vigorously
How amazing they all are, she is bound to agree
So march forward to the candles that burn bright
They stand on fourteen thrones of magnificent sight
They guard the chocolate crowns
That lace chocolate walls
Into the chocolate they drown
Till her silent wish befalls
Then up they zoom into dark holes of oblivion
The forks and spoons into continiuos action
Lips hoover them up, chunks of such goodness
While their bellies groan with such fullness
The complains will come- Oh this is too much
Yet they stand and with more plates they'll clutch
The dancing, the music
And the smiles that you can't buy
The noise that diffuses
With the laughs that they can't hide!
And when their stomachs are filled as well as their hearts
They'll leave her to sleep till her fatigue departs
She will wake and run straight to her pen
Where she'll write this poem from deep within
As she watches the clock as it ticks away
And soon it won't be anymore her special day
The words that she writes will give her closure
To a beautiful day she will always remember

The title speaks the tune of the poem where you show how short these times are. A present tense time indicator with a preterite verb: nice. The poem has the quality of being written at the end of the day, if you get me; it just seems like it has been. Well done if you wrote it at 11: 58 and didnt edit it. If not, ah well; its still impressive.
