Today Is The First Day Of School. (For Jake) Poem by Kimberly Lindsey

Today, Is the first day of school.

I am so excited. I picked out the clothes,
I would wear, last night.

And I laid them on the bed, all in a row.
I picked them out, all by myself. I am proud of the choices I made.

And look at my new backpack! Spiderman! He is so cool.

Mom and dad, bought me school supplies,
Crayons, markers, and glue.
And look at this construction paper,
I can think of a lot, of things I can do.

Yes! Today is the first day of school.

I hope I make new friends today,
And at recess we all get to play.

I wonder what, we will eat at lunch?
I hope it tastes good, and I hope it’s a bunch.

I wonder who my teacher will be?
I hope she is nice, I hope she likes me.

At the end of the day, when we go home,
I hope there is no homework to do.

I want to play with my sister,
I miss her little coo.
My mom and dad are great,
And I will miss them too!
