They'Re Not Fine Poem by Sasha Varney

They'Re Not Fine

I see people everyday.
My eyes deceive me, they say,
“He’s just fine. She’s okay.
They’re having a perfectly normal day.”
But my heart whispers,
“Look at his eyes. Look at her scars.
These people are like you,
they wear masks to the masquerade too.
They’ve been broken,
They need someone.
When they say that they’re “just fine”
They mean “I fell pretty hard this time,
And I need you to help me make it through
But I just don’t want to burden you.”
And as I look around me,
I wanted to get the keys
And let them fly away from the masquerade.
And break the masks they made,
To let them pour out all of their pain on me.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was thinking about how badly I want to help people who are struggling and I want them to cry on my shoulder but they just try to deal with the pain by themselves and it's never a good idea to do that alone.
