I Want To Be A Star Poem by Sasha Varney

I Want To Be A Star

When I was little, I used to wish to be a star,
Not wish upon a star.
Later on, I found out I couldn’t be one.
But I still thought “Wouldn’t that be fun? ”
And I still want to be star.
Not a rock star, but a bright star that you can see from afar.
I want to be bright enough to lead those
who are lost in the sea and feel that no one knows.
But I want to be dim enough to be covered by day
So I can let others have their say.
I want to be that light that people talk to
When there’s nothing else to do.
I want to hear the troubles, I want to hear the pain,
I want to hear the anger, I want to hear the insane,
I want to hear the impossible, I want to hear the happiness,
And in return I will try to make the pain less,
And tell you “It’s going to be okay,
don’t you give up, no matter what they say.”
And when I fall at last,
I will watch the earth pass
And hear a million people’s wishes.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Just a poem I wrote in class one day. I was thinking about when I was younger and how I was so innocent and so motivated to try the impossible. I decided to link that to my present life in a way. This poem comes after 'To Escape The Masquerade'. The full title is 'I Want To Be A Star To Escape The Masquerade'.
