The Whisperer Poem by Megan Colligan

The Whisperer

Rating: 5.0

'I'll tell you a secret, ' said a man one day
'I'll tell you a secret, that will take your breath away...'
Eagerly I leaned in, spellbound like a moth to a flame
'We live in a box, ' he said
Confused, I asked him to elaborate
'A box of worry, a box of shame,
A box of cards to which everyone plays the game.'
I looked around myself high and low, but I could not see it
'I don't understand, ' I said
He pointed to the sky, at a passing eagle overhead, and asked:
'What do you imagine it is thinking? '
I thought for a while, and proclaimed:
'Of nothing.'
Not a word was paid, not a sound was made
And with that, he walked into the light of the sunrise, a new morning, a new day...
