The Secret Poem by Hazel Durham

The Secret

Rating: 5.0

She dreams of a candle lit for eternal peace,
As this war will not forgive or cease,
Alcohol is a devil in disguise,
Her dad weeps from anger,
At his horrible past that makes him despise
People, contorted values, the enemy wins first prize,

Her mother withstands his attack,
By praying for mercy,
For a white dove to fly over these bitter skies,
She is used to hearing his pitiable lies,
Spilling onto her shiny, clean floor,
Her bruises are blamed on a loose fitting door,

She married a broken man with a secret,
That turns him mad, bad and sad,
Her only daughter escapes to the ocean,
Her bare feet sinking into shivering sand,
She love's the howling of the ocean wind against the evil,
Cleansing her of the darkness that surrounds her,

Sunflowers growing in seafront gardens,
Bring an unfamiliar smile to her fresh face,
Flaunting their height and exaggerated beauty,
Reminds her of a childish nursery rhyme,
Healing her dad will take time,
He is a monster of the blackness

That is his secret,
Tearing their insides out as they scream,
Pleading for mercy,
To end the hell,
Will he ever be well?
Living with drink is his only friend and comfort,

To help him survive another day,
The roar of the waves makes her feel free,
With an easy mind,
Her dad's secret is killing them all,
Peace is a miracle, but will it be possible to find?

It is a pathetic story narrated in beautiful verses. I hope the father will introspect his past and find an answer to his secret woes or else the dark shadows from his past will follow him and mar his life and that of his beloved ones. 10/10

A man with a black secret hidden inside has given himself to intoxication to drown his sense of guilt! He is a misery and a thorn in the flesh of his near ones! Outside on the sea strand, his poor wife finds some diversion! She hopes that the white dove of peace will oneday fly down and perch on her shoulders! Poignant write!

A candle lit for eternal peace is beautiful motivational candle. Sunflowers bloom in eternal light. The day helps us for surviving. We recover self from the darkness and motivate life towards a higher realm. Peace is definitely miracle. We shall perceive peace and proceed ahead. A great imagery this poem holds. A love poem is excellently penned...10

Story told such a skilled way the writing attracts reader's patience to make finish the reading. Intense is the logic of tearing episode. No secret is their but the violence illustrated with skilled craft.

A very interesting poem Hazel. Know somebody who's husband was an alcoholic. It destroyed their lives. Families too often try to hide the fact, and tend to shield the alcoholic. Just makes the situation worse. The demon drink! Some say that alcoholism is a disease, others say it's a life style choice. I think the secret to the white dove of peace lies in the nipping of the bud. Another great write.
