The Best Of Times Poem by Edwina Reizer

The Best Of Times

They were the best of times
when men were kind.
They were the best of times,
now hard to find.
What's happened to some human hearts?
Why is it the kindness now departs?
The reverence for life
is inundated
by the flooding of human tears
and as it's rising like tidal waves
all that man reveres
is giving way to the worst of times
that gives us pause to reflect,
to search for reasons to teach us
how to detect
why the kindness has gone away.
If ever your faith has taken leave
'Tis forever then your heart shall grieve.
For with your faith kindness returns
and brings back the best of times.
And so we must search for the goodness again
and ignore man's unkind crimes.
