Summer Of '27: No Rain, Sizzling Heat, Religion, The Devout, & God... ....... [ Praying Doesn't Always Work! ]

Rating: 5.0

In the Northern Hemisphere temperatures were soaring,
and people, with NO relief in sight, ....'Pool CLOSED' signs....
were ignoring.
A cook was sweating, frying eggs on sidewalk, but she was....
full of cheer,
her cafe [for 15 USDs] selling 2 eggs....& 1 tall, frosty beer.

Two weeks into the 'Scorcher' ** the fear of drought and heat...
took hold.
Those who professed their faith in God, by their leaders, were...
told:
'Your God is Merciful, and Your God is Mighty. Pray, thou devout to...
[reader, fill in this space]. Pray and keep praying, and 'He-she-it' will help...
...YOU!

The leaders of each country, she or he, on LIVE TV, .............
did pray [with sign language interpreters provided for NO FEE].
Some schools were closed and workdays were cut short for most.
Christians were exhorted *** to pray to 'Father, Son, & Holy Ghost'.

Members of 'other religions' also were, by their leaders, told to pray.
Weather forecasters began to forecast higher temperatures each day!
After three weeks even nonbelievers started earnestly praying.
Devoted 'conspiracy theorists', 'The End of Mankind! ', .....were saying.

A month passed. Then, on a Tuesday, at 10 A.M. Greenwich Time. ****
it RAINED! ! ! It rained light showers, not enough to wash away grime.
On Wednesday it was a lengthy light rain. The air did (thankfully) cool.
The cafe was packed (no more sidewalk eggs) . She, the owner, was....
no fool.

Intermittent showers and light rain continued. It was.................GOOD.
But the rain got harder & lasted longer wherever people & homes stood.
All things unprotected were dampened, including most people's mood.
Some complained to spouses, bosses, even to God! They were so rude!

'We asked for rain. Ok! We've had enough! How can it be STOPPED? !
Of this question, a young girl in India, dreamed, and from her mouth...
POPPED:
'My mom said God made it rain. So why can't we ask him to end it?
No one knows how to STOP rain. Let's ask God to no longer send it? '

In hours her words went viral *****, around the world, over social media lines.
[Astrologers in cities and villages then consulted their astrological signs.]
Most of the Leaders of Science, Religion, and Politics for once agreed.
They congratulated the girl, Bharati, saying 'Her idea may work indeed! '

Billions [not just in the Northern Hemisphere] then commenced to pray.
France even declared a national 'Pray for God to End the Rain'-Holiday!
All manner of people, religious and some NOT, then once again did pray.
In answer, the young girl, Bharati. now a world-wide celebrity, did say:

'I dreamed again. In last night's dream a spirit spoke. [Bharati frowned]
It said 'It's been raining hard and long in Heaven too. Many angels did....
drown.
God will answer recent prayers later. But, for now, He's gone to............
higher ground'.'

As humans, we are never content with what we receive. We continually request more and more, without any limit to our desires and necessities. Your poem perfectly illustrates this insatiable greed.

Well, MAYBE the humans 'could have' survived a bit longer BEFORE bothering 'God/gods'. Thanks for your interest and comment, Asim. : )

It became so tedious to try to get this poem 'published' here, WITH all of my definitions and extra notes, SO I only submitted (cont.)

At some point I DID notice two 'small' typos, but I did not feel like going to the 'trouble' to correct them. At least my wife is gone, so I've had more time on her PC. : ))

At least I got the poem on PH, for ALL TO READ and talk about over their morning 'paper' and 'one egg, over easy', ...or over SOCIAL MEDIA! ! and orange juice (6 oz. please) .

I TRIED to edit, to add some definitions and notes and topics which I dared not include when I first submitted this poem. I was 'afraid' PH would object or be overloaded.

I would keep this one simple 'Members of 'other religions' also were, by their leaders, told to pray.' to this 'Leaders of different faiths also instructed their followers to engage in prayer.'

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'll leave it as I typed it at first. My mind is VERY COMPLEX, though my wife may call me: Simpleton. : )
