St Valentine's Day Massacre Poem by Susan Wood

St Valentine's Day Massacre

It happened many centuries ago,
When Eros, rampant in his mischievous rage
Did plague the earth with his golden bow.
Many a man and maid to show,
Their latent desires, of sensuous joy,
Befalling all the girls and boys.

Then in an arbour of sweet refine
Zeus great god with Hera dine
The fruits of natures harvest pass
Eros with an arrow cast
The ultimate seeds of love divine
Turning great Zeus’ mind,
To love for Hera passion spent
Wreaking havoc, as he went
No one could deny the lust
Of Zeus, in impetus haste
Bought for a goddess, not a saint

Oh Eros god of love, divine,
Your arrows in all mortals find.
Two lovers in the bushes arbour scent
For you arrows must repent.
The sins you have bestowed on man
Though every mortals love to plan.
Prey, set my heart on fire
With the love of him desired.

Leave bodies strewn all around,
On Valentine’s Day to be found.
Many a heart token to give
All over the world where we live.
We live and love all our days
Giving love in many ways,
Bless us with your blessing appoint
Let us all feel your arrows points.
