Bonfire Night Poem by Susan Wood

Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night
By
Susan Wood

I am pleased to remember the 5th of November
When gun powder treason and plot,
There is good reason
To remember this season,
And why, it should not be forgotten.

Guy Fawkes, had plan
A misguided man,
To rid us of parliaments power.
But instead, someone lost his head,
And parliament was saved, in the final hour.

Through freedom of choice
We all make a noise,
To put our point across.
We vote for a man to do what he can,
But always at a cost.

Politicians, you see don't always agree,
On what we think is best for us.
But all the same, they take the blame.
When there is trouble and fuss.

If they tow the line,
Then everything's fine.
And all goes swimmingly well.
If they bottle out,
Then everyone shouts
And gives some poor bloke hell.

So, I hope you agree.
It's better to be.
Able to vote with a choice
And poor Guy Fawkes no matter how mislead
It's he who is making no noise
