A Moment Poem by Susan Wood

A Moment

(A moment captured whilst travelling from East Sussex on July 7th 2005 after having heard of the London bombings just before we left. And having heard that Brighton Station had been closed because of Terrorists, thankful we were driving home. Yet having thoughts of what others were facing driving into London as they drove home from their daily work.)

The omnipotent one looked out of a cloud with his celestial eye
A ray of sunlight, beamed down from the heavenly one on high
Looking down on part of his great masterpiece
The beautiful rolling South Downs

A sense of his awesome creativity filled the moment with hope
Out of a blackened cloud a torch beam of sunlight
On a day violent insanity
When human beings had wantonly bought carnage to the innocent.

Then the beams of sunlight shot off in other directions
As god in his magnificence had sent an array of healing light
To reassure a worried fearful world
As if reaffirming that will be well.
