Joining me for now
Under cloudy skies
Nifty little bird
Clever, seldom flies
Only HALF absurd

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The Dark-Eyed Junco is a little bird that I enjoy seeing on my bird feeders. I only see him in the wintertime, and it is indeed winter a my house. We had over a foot of snow yesterday for Thanksgiving Day.

The junco started showing up a couple of days ago, before it even snowed.

He is mostly a ground feeder, but does eat off of my bird feeders. When some food falls from the feeders on to the ground, he is the first bird to drop down and feed off the ground. He does not walk so much as he hops around, and is quite humorous to watch.

I call these square poems because they have the same number of syllables per line as there are lines in the poem. For example, a ten line poem would have ten syllables per line, and a six line poem would have six syllables per line. This poem has five lines, so there are five syllables per line.

It is also an acrostic poem. The first letter of each line spells out JUNCO.

Your poem and picture Warmed my heart, What a nice companion To have as Winter starts. Liked the syllabic form too, did you create it? In any case, thank you for this winter treat which I will preciously keep. It's very cute and very sweet!

Thank you for commenting, Sandra. Yes, I did create what I call the square poem. There are other definitions for square poems, of which I was unaware when I invented MY version of the square poem!

p.s. when the BIG orange cat (and other trespassing cats) approach, the juncos et al had better remember how to FLY! ! !

I enjoyed the Poet's Notes a bit more than the poem. if it weren't for the rhyming, why not say 'clever, seldom walks', as you allude to in P's Ns? we, too, have a junco invasion now in northern CA. i put out sunflower seeds which are shared by them......(in a birdbath used as a feeder & in a hanging metal mesh feeder & some on patio surface) ...and five (so far) kinds of sparrows, CA towhee, chickadees, and Stellars' jays.
