Sonnet #13 Poem by Edwina Reizer

Sonnet #13

What is brighter than a star in the sky
that shines its brilliance for the human eye
and never asks for more than this?
And what is sweeter than a rose in bloom
that perfumes the air for us to consume
and is happiest when the air is kissed?
The best of all that life has to offer
is not money held in a coffer
that is treasured too much by man.
Forgetfulness of the beauty we see
is a sorrow that can never be
a part of God’s glorious plan.
So before we bid farewell
‘tis a far better thing that we do dwell
on the brilliance of the star we see,
the perfume of the rose that grows for thee
so we can keep them in our memory.
