Ramadan Poem by Sheikh Ahmed Tijan Bah

Ramadan

Two dreams never collide
But two lives always coincide

Two rainbows never show at once
But rain often falls in abundance

Two fruits never bore on one node
But two trees can help each other to grow

Two toes never cross
But a finger point at you makes me blush

A month before you show
I prepare myself to grow

I get myself ready to learn
For in you there is a lot to earn

You make me strong in body and mind
You get me used to sharing every and anything that’s mine

You teach me to temper my temper
My self-control grows to flames from ember

With you around, my good deeds further multiply
I repent and my sins dissolve from what was a mountain pile

You come from the one above
And my devotion flies to him like a dove

In you there is mercy like there is in none of your mates
So I wake up every night hope to score a date

A date at night with the night
Greater than 1000 of months in might

And as you are about to leave us
I find myself in deep thoughts

Wondering if I have done enough
But my enough might just not be good enough

So I ask the lord above
To make my pile of sins dissolve

To shower me with his mercy
And build me a palace in “Janna tul Firdausi”
