Politrics Poem by Sameer Ahsan

Politrics

Standing candidates rushed in haste
To my village, before voting takes place
Wooing the people by the ancient way
Gearing up for campaigning, I remember they said-
'Better road, a pond, a bridge over the river
Employment, electricity and proper sewer'.

On every visit,
A crowd gathered to listen the words of hope
Reminding our rights, they requested to vote
No stone left unturned, stood on toes
In veil of promises asked for the support
One said- 'vote to power, I will kick all your woes'
Another a step ahead- 'your problems are mine,
Till last breath I'm so entwined'

Likewise every contestant promised big and bigger
As wide mouth could open, spoke in air
Be fooling the people by empty rhetoric campaign
And when came to power, never visited again
Poor village of mine left without work and innovation,
It seemed their promises sank into oblivion.

Now, I would urge, for the power and prestige we offered
Come to our village, for years we suffered
And if we people are not fools
Let we all not be used always as a voting tool..
Here I spoke much against their might
Well they know what is right?
