Pearls Before Swine Poem by Valerie Lennox

Pearls Before Swine

The way you looked at me ….. lovingly
And touched me ….. tenderly
And spoke to me ….. softly
All lies!

Behind the mask of love lay a devious mind
Those eyes of blue were deceiving
The things you said, the words you spoke
To make me believe that you were true
Were simply fabrications.

Your faithless heart holds no remorse
Nor rueful regret of the pain you cause
Blithely unaware – or perhaps indifferent
You move on leaving destruction in the wake
Of your manipulation.

No More! You will not find in me
A sob, a tear for broken dreams
And promises never fulfilled
No, I will not regret having loved one so unfeeling
For my love was true and strong – though wasted.

Pearls cast before swine are still pearls
And are not made less beautiful by where they land
Perhaps, are even more fair and lovely
Beside the muck and grime of insincerity.
