Flattery Got You Everywhere (Almost) Poem by Valerie Lennox

Flattery Got You Everywhere (Almost)

Rating: 4.5

You have that way of coaxing from me
All you want to know
You charm, flatter and make me feel safe
And the words from me just flow

At first I thought your questions sincere
Finding out about me
Now I wonder if you’re asking me
So I don’t ask about you

So I won't ask why the long silences
When I do not exist
Or why I’m not somewhere
Near the top of the list

Mr Macho Arrogance who would have thought
It was about you, not me
And I was just foolish to care, your interest was nought
But a boost of your own esteem

So now I’m awake and see you are false
Why do I still wait for a call?
I wish you’d slip back to a time and a place
Where you didn’t exist at all.
