Peace Lesson From History Poem by Tirupathi Chandrupatla

Peace Lesson From History

Ashoka the emperor
Fought the war
War of Kalinga
With deadly end.

Win was not
A win indeed
Loss of men
Cries everywhere.

Fallen bodies
Blood and limbs
Dead were enemy
Many his own.

In great remorse
He renounced all
Adopted Buddha’s
Principles in life.

There were others
Who loved wars
For wars they lived
In wars they died.

Ashoka’s message
All peace then on
He ruled the land
As people’s friend.

Sent messengers
To countries around
To spread Buddhism
And non-violence.

Let’s learn this
From history
Shun all wars
And invite peace.
