Open Window Poem by Benitto Pavithran

Open Window

I see these people
These motivated emancipated weebles
Tossing and tumbling in their places
With their ambitious disgruntled faces
Moving ahead like there's no tomorrow
Adamant and confident about whom and what to follow
They amaze me
Cuz no matter how deep or how broad I see
It still doesn't make any goddamn sense to me
Of why they would walk blind when it's too easy to see
Look there's a man
Busting his ass to do whatever he can
Now look there's another
Trying to split open his brainy eyes to discover
A profound meaning to all this existence
Or a befitting end to all this persistence
But wait who's that?
It's you, sitting above them being rude and fat
Like a malevolent talking pumpkin
Bloating and plotting against your own kin
Have they ever wronged you they ask
Have they ever tried to rip off your mask
Strip you naked and mock the way you breathe
Dig out your soul and look underneath?
Nay brother, it's all a farce
You and your deluded mind created behind bars
That secluded you from the world out there
While you sat wondering what's foul and what's fair
Wake up, slap yourself, kick your skull
Stop being all melodramatic and dull
It's an arena of fools dancing around with no rules
They'll bludgeon your bones then kiss your bruise
Laughing while they cry for your pain
And weeping when all the humor goes in vain
So muster courage, stand bare
Ponder not who or what comes when and where
Call it your reckoning, your selfish attribution
And let go of the idea of any divine retribution
For come what may, you'll eventually die
Some are gonna think, some giggle, some cry
But you'll be no more, no life no thought
And everything you did shall one day be forgot
It's only a matter of time I guess
Before the button pops up and someone hits 'press'
Might as well wrap it up in beautiful covers
So that they'd come, wipe off a tear and offer flowers
Lie them on your smug smiling carcass
Then leave you to rot away in eternal darkness
Better close the windows now I say
Before the trees, the birds and the animals that pray
Start withdrawing away from reasons
And make way for dark gloomy seasons.
