Bourgeois Profanity Poem by Benitto Pavithran

Bourgeois Profanity

There stands you
There stands them
There is a predicament
And a seemingly radical solution
There was the time
That butchered your perception
So is the time
That nurtures your imbibition
Now you stipulate, profess and proclaim
That all was a vain attempt
At some sort of divine redemption
For ostracization was always a joke to them
And prejudice a mockery
That caused you to morph
Into the societal animal they desire
Now lecherous for your misery
They yawp their dominance
Stomping their fat ferocious feet
Over your broken psyche
In a grand display of besmirched humanity
Adamant at sabotaging
Every last bit of happiness
That your time could offer
You retaliate then
In every possible weighed out manner
Rampaging and rioting inside your head
Reminiscing and recapitulating
Every alternation of the yesterday
That was and shall ever be
The pièce de résistance
Of the repertoire you call your life
But transience, yes?
The inevitable dilemma always haunts
Poking you in the nose
Slapping you on the cheek
And luring you towards a place called hope
Where the ghost of your future looms
Dissipating and gallavanting
The fortunes of your present
So make hay brother
Make it, at the break of dawn.
