Numb Poem by Louise Walker

Numb

She lay there empty handed
A razor on the side
Waiting to be torn apart
Opened up like her skin was set to be
Her brain focused on nothing but the pain kept within

She smiled and smiled
No one guessed a thing
Not that she was bleeding on the outside
That she wasn't just insecure
But the scars she wanted to hide scalded her skin

She opened up
Everything poured out
The fragile framework of her mind shattered
Not the words leaving her mouth
The razor entering her skin

She'd lay there gone
She had left the world at last
Never forever to her dismay
Only while the pain made her feel
Then everything snapped back and rewound

Forever and a lifetime
Never to be gone
