My World Poem by Louise Walker

My World

I've no idea what to say to you.
You watched the world collapse on me.
You cheated, lied and beat me.
You beat me black and blue.

I met you once, I met you twice,
Such a lovely person, I thought,
Those first few weeks were paradise.
I got lost in my train of thoughts.

Things changed, you hit me.
'I fell down the stairs' I'd say.
I couldn't face that you were beating me.
I made excuses day after day.

For who would believe a guy like me
Would surrender to his lover.
His lover who seems so caring,
So caring like no other.

It's so natural to assume the man is the perpetrator so was surprised getting to the end to find out you were writing about a man. This sadly is not such a rarity these days either but a really good write.10
