Luck Poem by Louise Walker

Luck

I opened my eyes and I saw you,
Standing there looking over at me.
I heard your hearts gentle beating,
And I wondered, what could it be?

You held my hand as we walked,
As we walked over the field each day.
Crying and laughing and shouting,
Letting nothing get in our way.

Then one day you let go of me,
You let me do some things by myself.
I told you I didn't need you,
I started looking after my own health.

You saw me grow older,
Every single day.
The clock was ticking by,
And there I saw you lay.

The responsibility became mine,
I was the one looking after you.
You got worse and worse and worse,
And then it came out of the blue.

Sitting next to that hospital bed,
It made me think how lucky I am,
To have someone like you,
Once hold me tight in her arms.

I only knew you thirteen years,
But them years were definitly worthwhile.
If I had one wish, I would bring you back,
I'd bring back that gorgeous smile.

If I could choose, I would choose you,
To be my mum forever.
Your smile, your eyes, your face, your heart,
We would smile and laugh together.

I don't know how I cope without you,
I really have no clue.
I know you'll be in my heart forever,
Because, simply, I love you.
