Not In My Day Poem by Jayne Downing

Not In My Day

I wake up and you are not in my day
For a moment life stands still
The pillows entice me to stay and pretend
But it’s time, time for life to mend

I open the door with no sun to lighten the way
So tread slowly alone in the rain
The stark truth of life laughs wind in my face
And I try, I try so hard to move on

What has been can never be
And what has gone is lost
To get it back would fail the future
We cannot live life in the past
