Not All Goodbyes Are Painful Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

Not All Goodbyes Are Painful

I recall the time I had to say goodbye
Funny, but there wasn't a tear in my eye,
Seemed like the cruel years have all erased
Each remnant of the feelings I onced traced,
A sigh of relief was all that I could say
None remained, the end was...overdue anyway.

The closing doors led to my new life ahead
And the coldness of the parting was left unsaid
I took back all that once was part of me
Out of this prison I can now breathe freely
No more fear nor cowering dread that goes through my nights
And no more tears of hurt to blur my human sights.

Not all goodbyes are painful, that is what I know
Some are better done to face a new tomorrow
When the shackles drain all that is of you
Goodbyes, though hard, are the last things you must do.
For though you've loved sincerely from the heart
Some loves are selfish, so with resolve - depart!
