My Team Poem by Poppi Sykes

My Team

Rating: 5.0

We're in a boxing ring
I'm blurry, can't see anything

Don't know where or who I'll hit
Don't know if I'll even like it

You know it is coming
Will it sting or be numbing?

I'll be weekly waiting for the attack
Are they going to punch me in the head or behind my back?

Or are they going to put me in a head lock and beat me on cctv?
I've already been left solitary, stuck in a tear,3rd degree

They don't care about you
Emphasise 'team' but we are without a doubt two

You and me

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is about my time in college. Every 'week' there seems to be something that will hurt me, whether it's emotionally, mentally or physically and I always feel as if I started it.
I was beaten up by my teammates when I was drunk because I provoked a fight. Our coaches and previous teammates have always emphasised that we are a team and that we are ONE and no One gets left behind, but I know damn well that we are 'two'.
