My Scarlet Letter Poem by Cheyenne Ringuette

My Scarlet Letter

Rating: 5.0

If words were not so fragile
and loyalty not so rare
would literature hold a right to compare?

If a promise were a garden
and time did not exist
would understanding bloom
or disappointment twist?

If lips somehow could envision
a glimpse into tomorrow
would lies no longer be borrowed?

If apologies could grasp their meaning
and questions lost confusion
would forgiveness replace disillusion?

If you tried to read my heart's inscriptions
the deepest scar would reveal your name
I can attempt to bandage the wound
but a part of you will always remain
