My Mother Never Told Me Poem by Edwina Reizer

My Mother Never Told Me

My mother never told me
that when I was full-grown
I would put away childish ways
and wander on my own
into the land of strange adventures
to find a comfortable place.
Neither did she tell me
of all the problems I would face.

And what mother wants to frighten her child
with tales of what to expect.
She intentionally refrains from this
and keeps her tongue in check.
I grew up in innocence
and later rued the day
that she had not told me
and just allowed me to find my way

Do you miss telling me all about life
or did you think I'd see the light
and wake up on my own someday
to sleep quietly in the night? .
