My Belated Farewell Poem by Ron Knight

My Belated Farewell

Rating: 5.0

There is a photo of you
standing right next to me
our expressions
reveal a secret we were hiding
that would bring us apart
under a cloud
and so insecure
on a cold winters day

the next day
I saw you that last time
we swapped hearts
I kept yours safe with me
and you took mine so far away

why did I give up so easily?
and let you go
I still ask myself
did I really believe them
when they said
we would get over us
nearly a lifetime ago
me with your heart
and you with mine
