Mum Poem by Farina Afrin Malik

Mum

I know I can be stupid
I know I make mistakes
I hope you can forgive me
for all my outbreaks.

I have so many “moments”
Of which you are a part
for this, I say sorry
from the bottom of my heart.

You’ve been through it all
the good and the bad
so if I act dumb
I know it makes you mad.

A great mother you’ve been
of that I am sure
I also know true,
I’ve been an utter chore.

I know sorry doesn’t cut it
I’ve said it all before
the bonds of our mother-daughter hood
I unknowingly tore

Still, I look to you
with my silly face
promising you, rude attitude will vanish
completely, without a trace

But, know this dear mother
my inspiration, my joy and my sorrow
I will always love you
whether it be, yesterday, today or tomorrow.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This was an apology poem to my mum. One out of the many small apology notes I wrote to her over many, many years. But apologies aside, one thing I've learnt is that no matter what you do, your mother will never be disappointed in you. Even when she's mad at you, she'll love you. It is a blessing we take for granted.
