Mixed Messages Poem by Farina Afrin Malik

Mixed Messages

As the days grow shorter
The time it took for you to distance yourself from me decreased
Our friendship that burned like a thousand suns was torn apart by a simple subtle truth
Love...
I loved you but you never loved me and never will
Alone I stand on the highest peak of the mountain
Gasping for air
The hand that once held me so tightly
let go of me in the darkness
My only question is: Why?
And yet I wonder was it all in my head?
Because when I look back there's no hand
Its as if it never was there to begin with
A dream world I blew up like a bubble
but when the truth was revealed it popped
You were no more in my heart
Just a whisper in the dark night
A whisper only I could hear every night
Now and for all eternity
