Most Enjoyed Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Most Enjoyed

The one thing about aging,
I have discovered to not expect.
And found it most enjoyed.
Is the minding of my own business.
No one could tell me,
I would become so successful at it.
The air I breathe is fresher.
And the peace I keep to know it earned,
Can't no one pay me...
To give it up or exchange it,
For nonsense not mine to start.
This,
Is most enjoyed.
Especially when I know I have a choice,
Between...
Negative people doing their best,
To share their restless headaches.
And others who have already experienced,
Hiding behind trees.
Pretending to have amnesia.
And wearing ridiculous disguises,
One's own mother would not recognize.
With that disguise,
To become more preferred.
With it to forget who it was,
They most enjoyed...
To nag, belittle and leave upset.

Only those who have aged,
To appreciate it done.
Can admit,
Knowing they have not committed...
To continue tolerating that stuff,
With all of it to have had enough.
Are the ones looking and feeling,
Happier than they have ever felt.
As if God had permitted them,
Permission who to tell what to kiss.
And the most enjoyable thing about this,
Is the knowing that God approves.
