Me Granny On Mckee Poem by Ken Duffy

Me Granny On Mckee

At me Granny Duffy's, I used to stay a lot
I loved all the aromas, from her cooking pot
On McKee Ave, that's where her cottage was
People stopped at her gate just to chat and pause
I could knit a scarf for you, granny taught me how
Sitting by the fireplace, sure I can picture it now
She loved her cigarettes, with a nice cup of tea
Having a little natter, it was just her and me
My uncles the twins, who also lived there too
Boy did they torment me, I tell you now it's true
Always taking the mickey, messing with my head
I would disappear to sulk, to grannies garden shed
With the twins I shared a room, three in a double bed
Their smelly feet surrounding, my tiny little head
I used to try on their clothes, Teddy Boys they were
Stand in front of the mirror, to practice my sexy stare
Granddad made up the group, a grave digger was he
Down in Glasnevin, is where he worked you see
Well that's my little story, of the cottage on McKee
Where still a welcome awaits, with a hot pot of tea
