Lizard Poem by Reginald Ruwende

Lizard

Intruder innocuous
In apparel incongruous
Insignia of my inertia
Motionless as though lifeless
Hilarious!
Silhouette of a scaly scurrying vertebrate
A scare scaring me into nerve-wrecking panic mode

Scary somewhat as he scurries along
In mine confines gallivanting all day long
Mine eyes rolling and roaming along
In mine couch incarcerated all night long
Perfectly still, pretending to be strong
Pen in hand, as though penning a song

Scary little reptile,
Howbeit you haunt me in my slumbers
O,
I present a perfect insignia of thy inertia
Perfectly still,
Preying for prey basking in the sun
Hence you yearn in yourn comfort zone

Like my predominantly grey apparel shrouds twin lustrous stripes
So some opaque grey cloud clouds thine lustre
My jutting limbs were meant not for meadows but rocky topographies
Hence you tread rocky, thorny terrains

See,
I am a scaly cowardly creature of no plumage
Resemblance of a timid, battered image

Whence cometh thee, lizard spirit?

Wrong priorities,
Stances not taken,
Crushes that had me crushed,
Weeping after whipping weeping holes..
How is that the lizard's fault?
