Madzimbabwe Poem by Reginald Ruwende

Madzimbabwe

Rating: 5.0

Sleek and sly
As though at pains to fly
Masons of stonemasonry impeccable
A fortress impregnable

A dozen fathoms
A dozen reasons
How the empire crumbled
Tale of a tale untold

On thine spiricules
Still perched on the plinth
Unleashing a typical yelping cry
Reincarnation of the masons
An African renaissance

In languid murmur,
In a now pariah abode
Wherein the ruin the ruins forebode
Descent, irrefutable
Decline, inexorable

Taking a gander,
A few yards yonder
Many a goose and gander
Smothered in plunder
By seams put asunder

Filthy larks,
A polarized lot
Too raucous to heed the shrill
Too rancorous to gather the remnants
The tale of Madzimbabwe
The edifices that crumbled

Emblem of Madzimbabwe,
Flap thine wings and fly
Gather thine feathers, peculated by the bateleurs
Parrot the tale,
Evoke that lost masonry spirit of oneness
An unstinting sense of national pride

Upon thine shrill it rains souse
Mutirikwi bursts her banks
ZIMBABWE!
Once more the scape of delightful ambiances
MADZIMBABWE retold!
Proudly ZIMBABWEAN!
