Letting Go Poem by Danusha Marie

Letting Go

I’ve left the past in its place
Transferred disappointments to lessons learned
Sweet memories close, not to chase
Cashing in pain for happiness earned

I’ll treasure the past for what its done
Draw boundaries around what I resent
Shaping the woman I’ve become
But traumas cannot bleed into present

I am not defined by what has been
While form was created from what I’ve felt
Releasing burdens of their sin
My character evolved by how I’ve dealt

I would have chosen much less pain
But cannot dwell on should be
To consume my mind with what could have been
Is prison away from new glee

I will not allow betrayal and lies
To taint my hope and outlook
For disparity and darkness dies
When good hearts enter life’s book

I must believe the future is free
Sleep sound in faith and potential
Trust that karma is reality
And joy manifests from free will
