Left Behind Poem by Samantha Myers

Left Behind

Rating: 5.0

My greatest fear left unspoken
When you get better will I be left here
Standing alone
With a broken heart

I’ve been waiting long for you
I can wait longer
But I need to know…
Will you leave me standing here
When you are all better and ready

Don’t want to sit here with the once in a while dreaming
When my soul will end up screaming for relief

You’ve told me your fears
But do you know mine?

Seeing other people’s broken hearts
And the state they are in
Scares me to death
You see, tell me you see, without me speaking. The words I need to hear are: “Wait for me, I’ll be there when it’s time. I won’t abandon you. I promise.”
All I need you to say is, “I won’t leave. I swear.”
I’ll breathe easier tonight.
I would wait for all eternity for you,
Never patient before, but this feels right.
Leap of faith
Walking on water
Trusting something I don’t know.
Not giving you anything except my time
Putting my heart on ice to preserve it,
Waiting for the transplant…

You supply the oxygen that supports my lungs
You are the heart that pumps my blood
