Leave Behind Poem by Shruti Goswami

Leave Behind

What it is that I can leave behind
That might ignite sparks in a million mind?
Reproduction is done
By animals and humans alike
Leaving behind off springs
To compensate your contribution
Is not a good idea
Neither generous, nor kind.

I always thought I was better than the wild
And yet at this cross road of life
I won't deny
If animals had the privilege
Of ink, letters and rhyme
The legacy they would have left behind
Would be far more than what humankind
Would ever aspire to achieve or find.

What is it that I can leave behind
That something different
Of a different kind.
