Last Visit Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Last Visit

Last visit

Of her now, if any
-left over, must be her
-bone, some hair
-in grave

When we met for last time
-which to me, was best one

I was guest
-and she host

Spread the mattress
-on it then the bedsheet
-snow-white and clean,
-folded so that looked like
-ironed and well pressed

I knew that wasn't

In those days in village?
-it wasn't possible!
-they did not know of it.

Grandma
-my mom's ma
-was very special

Was racist and sexist!
-partly that, partly this!

Grandpa was Sayed
-blood of prophet

I heard that was handsome
-of course, rich; and liked fun

Roamed around on his beast
-got to where she was born

Story is messy
-has died in history

Of culture, except for:
- "Grand pa who was young,
-went and met her mama,
-then saw her papa and
-pleaded for her hand…"

Was turned down! ! !

Grandpa repeated
-his early request
-and always rejected

Broken Romeo saw lovely Juliet
-approached her with fine words:
- "You love me truly? "
-her "Yes" built an ending

"Then get on, sit at back…"
-end of road Fesharak…
-they married and settled…

I am their descendent
-son of their third daughter

Mom's husband
-non-Sayed

That is why siblings and myself
-never got from her treatment
-equal to cousins; of uncles.
-She saw us far lower!

The child of a daughter
-with father non-Sayed

But this time
-I was king
-she servant

Had become, if not best,
-special grandchild
-first to head for abroad
