Lantern Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Lantern

I went out with lantern
Then came back and returned
I faced a hurricane
Could not go with candle
Could not last and handle
I was Shams not Khayyam
In love but set to fight, or
Discuss in Chelleh

In search,
I shouted, “I want Kim, ”
I was loud, showed anger
“Not your Kim, Kimberly, ”
I shouted angrily.
“My Kim is that bastard, Lawrence-like, ”
They wondered
Looked around

I needed a point
Just a dot on an “i”,
“What is that? ”
Someone asked
And I laughed:
“Oh you dumb, ”
Single dot makes the change
“It’s not l; neither I, ” that is Kim

Kipling is a name
To streets and train
But no more
Not for me
Kipling is the Kim
That’s the dot
That’s water and the well
That’s love and the hate

It’s candle of Khayyam for the night
And lantern of Rumi, when daylight
