Killers Have No Licence To Kill But.... Poem by Rajnish Manga

Killers Have No Licence To Kill But....

Rating: 5.0

It has now become so easy to kill
an author or an upright journalist
who doesn't tow the majoritarian line.

Latest to fall prey to this culture
Is Gauri Lankesh, the Brave Daughter
To a Fearless Father- P. Lankesh.

She was seen as a forthright editor
Outspoken writer and a social activist
Who always worked for communal harmony.

This evening her voice was silenced
By the bullets of a coward killer
When she was hardly back from office.

Her views infuriated Hindu Hardliners
Feeling outraged by her bold columns
So, instead of taking legal recourse

They pronounced the sentence themselves
and delivered injustice- then and there
India is proud of her fearless daughter.

It makes me feel sorrow for Gauri Lankesh to be killed in this despicable way. She was the innocent victim of Hindu fanatics. Tremendous elegy.

Yes, such things deeply hurt the right thinking people anywhere in the world. Thanks, Michael.

This is really very sad Sir. Intolerance level is rising at an alarming rate and whoever dares to protest gets killed. We are heading for a very bad time. Thanks for giving such a strong message.10++++++

Thanks for sharing the concern of a common man on this point. Though, a bit different, you will recall how a cartoonist from Bengal and another one from Maharashtra were jailed for lampooning the politicians.

Religous extremism is a separate satanic ideology. Neither it's Islam, nor hinduism, nor christianity, nor jewism nor Bushism. No religion teaches this brutality. Your poem is a well deserved tribute to to a great journalist and a lovely activist.

Yes, absolutely- No religion teaches this kind of brutality. The situation is indeed very intriguing. Instead of opening up a healthy discourse, people try to finish off the detractors. Thanks a lot, Sir.

A great tribute to a lady activist and journalist with fire in her heart! Swimming against the current is not seen as a quality of those who think independent, but as an abominable crime these days! When some take the law in their hands, society becomes anarchic!

This is indeed a great value addition to what I have said about the slain journo and the atmosphere where a dissent by an influential person is stifled by gun. In 2015, Mr Kalburgi (same state) was killed in cold blood but no arrests have been made so far. The situation is not much different in other states. Thanks a lot, Valsa ji.
