Journey Through High School Poem by AY.PRINCE JONES

Journey Through High School

JOURNEY IN HIGHSCHOOL
At dawn,
When our young bare feet
Touched the starting line
Of this breathtaking epic race
Our newly birthed eyes
Watched in incredulity
The wonders of this great adventure
With dreams of joy, happiness and freedom
With our ‘feeders' on neck
Ready to march into this ‘forest of fun'
******************************
At mid - day,
When the sun burnt
Our feet red hot
And our feeders emptied
Our eyes weary
Adolescence tossing us about like
Pin - pon balls
Our dreams faint
Wishing we could end it all
Our tongues turned sour
The wild - life of this
Supposed ‘forest of fun'
Hunting us restlessly
But the guide
From trusted persons
Kept us firm in the race
******************************
Dusk soon came by,
Though life got tougher
But our skins now resistant
From the heat and cold
From the burns and bruises
Our feet now strong
Ready to end this game
This game of 72 full moons☾
But our hearts
Now fondling and bond
Wishing we could stay in the race
A little longer
Having managed to tame
The ‘wild cats' to pets
But sadly,
The sun is set
And its time to leave
Its time to bid loved ones
Brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties.
FAREWELL
And end this journey
This journey that started 72 moons ago
To prepare for another phase
Another journey
To start by sunrise.
