India's Daughter Poem by DEEPAK KUMAR PATTANAYAK

India's Daughter

From North Pole
To South Pole
From earth to moon
There seemed distance not lying in between
As if nearing closer
Closer home walking through
Farness was as panicky to a coward soul
As work to a person torpid and in grumble
Simple yet marked was her frigate
Though not sailing through water nor firmament
Yet silhouetted
Against riding along the lonely high road
Leading to homeland miles and miles away in a village
Upon a bicycle with a lot of mileage
Shady became the road
When trees were around
Cradling her in their arms as if their own child
In such days as torrid
She hurried on
After a pause turning her back upon
The road that lay ahead
And be it diverged
At some ancient point
She knew her path well yet
Leading to homeland and home
Where breathed easy her brothers and sisters and mom
And her dad was behind seated on pillion
Accompanying her long journey through like a brave soldier on mission
Weary, restless and hungry
Yet she turned beds thorny to flowery
In a week time
Covering thousand miles
Looked like an easy venture for her so strained as was she
Thus earning accolades infinite from her country
Upon reaching safe home and family
Oh what a bravery
The truth never flaunted in the face of misery
I salute you my dear
As India's daughter
Bold, determined and fifteen year old
Dreaming home when asleep was the world
